Into The Badlands
For seasons 2 and 3 of AMC’s Into the Badlands, we served as the model making department creating everything from fantasy Set Decoration, to steam punk style props and even an impressive array of post-apocalyptic weapons.
As a martial arts based show, the demand for weapons was high. Our team was tasked with keeping the fight sequences fresh and captivating by supplying new types of weapons for each scene. Some of these were based on traditional weapons, some were totally original fabrications inspired by the post-apocalyptic setting, others were random objects chosen by Fight Director Andy Cheng. Anything could be a weapon in the hands of Fight Choreographer Master Dee Dee. Our armory listed everything from Swords, num-chuks and Flails to typewriters and even an Octopus. New builds would be tested by the stunt team for viability in a fight sequence. Once approved, we would need a hero version for close ups on camera, several fight versions to withstand the full blooded fight choreography and finally, soft versions to protect the stunt performers during a stunt. These different versions would be constantly swapped in and out during a fight based on the requirements of the scene.
